This is a major expansion to
the Emergency Department at Cleveland Regional Medical Center to allow for increasing
volumes and to provide additional privacy and confidentiality for patients. Wilkerson
Associates worked very closely with their consultant to “right-size” the new ED to
reach the square footage that was appropriate and ample for projected volumes and
through-put.
New construction for the ED includes a new
ambulance entrance, 24 exam rooms with 2 large dedicated
trauma rooms, 4 additional trauma bays, 6 universal rooms,
12 exam rooms, 2 psych holding rooms, and a large central
nurse station with visualization of the exam rooms. The new
ambulance entrance can accommodate 6 emergency vehicles and
a helipad is part of the new construction. This ED can
accommodate a high volume should there ever be a catastrophic event.
The construction of the new ED space allowed
the existing ED to move in and the vacated space
is now being renovated. Renovation in the existing
ED includes a new fast-track unit with 10 fast-track
rooms, nurse station, waiting areas, administration,
and discharge planning waiting area. Three new triage rooms will be added.
The new Outpatient Surgery Center includes
a drop-off canopy entrance, new registration, waiting,
and family support amenities. Also included is a pre-admission
area with various exam rooms including chest, venipuncture and
lab areas, admissions and business components.
The pre and post-op area includes 24 private exam
rooms and associated support space. The Post Anesthesia
Care unit includes 12 new stations with two isolation rooms
for HVAC control as well as acoustical separation. This PACU
is located adjacent to the existing Surgical Department so that
staff can flex between the Surgery Department and the new Outpatient Surgery Center.
