| The Gaston Ambulatory Surgery
Center is designed for direct patient and family access and is conveniently
connected to the hospital by an enclosed walkway. The project includes 18 private pre-operative/post-operative cubicles, 6 spacious operating rooms, a 9-bay Phase I Recovery room, pediatric cubicles and appropriate support spaces. We created a warm, relaxing atmosphere in the waiting and reception area by using soft curved forms, rich wood accents, indirect lighting, and a palette of deep natural hues. The pediatrics service provides a warm, cheerful environment for parents and children with bright colors, graffiti pattern on the floor, bright cubicle curtains, and animals and numbers on the walls and ceiling. A high level of staff participation during planning and design was critical to this project's success. |
