Morehead Memorial Hospital asked Wilkerson Associates
Architects to revisit their Facility Master Plan and continue to update and refine
the goals that had been put in place. One of the areas identified for additions and
renovations was the Emergency Department. The new Emergency Department replaces the
existing department, which allowed ease of construction phasing and kept the existing
ED operational during construction.
The new ED provides thirteen new Exam Rooms around a central
nurse station. The nurse station area includes a private
consult/conference area, space for physicians and attendings,
and various nursing support areas. A dedicated nurse station
is provided for Trauma, which includes two large Trauma Rooms
plus a dedicated Radiology Room, a two-station Triage area, and
four Fast-Track Rooms. New registration, workroom, financial
counseling areas and ample waiting with vending, and a decontamination
shower at the ambulance entry are also part of the new construction.
The walk-in entry and ambulance entry are distinctly separate from each other.
