This project consists of new construction of 21,400 square feet plus interior renovations to the Moses Cone Regional Cancer Center located on the campus of Wesley Long Memorial Hospital. The existing building is a three-story structure connected to Wesley Long via an enclosed corridor between the respective main lobby areas.
Using multi colored precast concrete panels, the west-facing wall will become an artistic “canvas” creating a strikingly fresh, modern image for the Cancer Center. A new internally illuminated glass stair tower will accent the front façade of the building and serve to distinguish the entry of the Cancer Center from that of Wesley Long Hospital. The expansion will be constructed in the adjacent parking lot without significant interruption to ongoing operations.
The Cancer Center expansion will focus on developing a new Breast Center located on the main level. The expansion will double the family waiting, expand the current Lab and Pharmacy and provide more patient privacy in Chemotherapy. Renovations to Radiation Oncology will solve existing workflow and patient privacy issues.
A new High Dose Radiation Suite will be constructed in existing shell space. Renovations to the second floor will expand educational classrooms and conference space, feature a 120-seat auditorium, and Patient Services area overlooking the two-story Atrium Lobby below. Patient Services will include Pastoral Care, Psychological, Nutritional and Genetic Counseling and a patient / family education library.
